Yesterday, a parcel arrived, long overdue and highly anticipated. Quite overdue since my estimated time delivery window expired a few weeks ago and ordinarily with Amazon I never have problems with on-time deliveries to Italian republic. Presentation in Dogana?? Postal costs? Taxation, on what? I have never had to pay duty on an Amazon package. Just I have learned to treat the Italian postal arrangement as a child I'm babysitting – i that has no subject area and will do what they want no matter what you say. Another expats have reported problems with the postal system and even avoid it entirely and use a "higher" postal arrangement from the Vatican.

Also the actual mechanism of moving effectually and delivering the mail service, 1 of the biggest hurdles is really getting mail service into the land. In fact, they accept a package graveyard near my house, conveniently disguised every bit "Dogana" (Customs) where packages go to die (or are "put downwards" if yous prefer that gentler term). • Hair and articles made of hair. Guess no sending a hair shirt for a Sweet Sixteen, eh?
• Man remains. But conveying them on a airplane is probably fine.
• Alive bees, leeches, and silkworms. Tin can yous imagine if the bees got out after existence handled by the Postal service?
• Nutmeg, vanilla; sea salt, rock salt; saffron. At present, this is just unfair. We are stuck with vanilla "odour" instead of good extract.
• Playing cards of any kind. Vegas can't offshore their old playing cards anymore – who thinks this is mafia-related?
• Toys non made wholly of wood. This has particular significance for me because I received several care packages when studying in Italy labeled with "wooden toys" on the community label, stuffed with all kinds of crazy prohibited items similar a kilo of saffron. Ok, non actually. But they didn't question.

At present, what you tin bring on a airplane is apparently dissimilar. I "have heard" that people take brought over cheese, toys not wholly made of wood.

The big undercover is, up until yesterday, I didn't have a unmarried cookbook in my business firm! Earlier moving I gave away or sold the few cookbooks I had. I love using the internet to exchange and discover recipes, but I finally decided things are settling downwards a little for me after four years of living hither and I want to starting time having a "home" feeling over again, and so I selected a few old and a few new books (including David's The Perfect Scoop which I had been waiting for forever) to dip my toes into cookbook h2o and determine which books will make it into my closely-guarded traveling bookshelf.
